Now listen again with the script
In 1519 Ferdinand Magellan left Spain with five ships with him. His intention was to find the East Indies but, unfortunately, the trip started terribly because there were 60 days of rain.
His ships first went south towards Africa and then crossed the Atlantic Ocean. As they passed South America there were very high seas and stormy winds. The weather was so bad, a ship was lost and some sailors on another ship decided to return home. Magellan, however, did not quit.
In the Pacific Ocean, they didn’t have much food or water and sometimes there wasn’t any wind. The ships eventually arrived in the Philippines, where Magellan died. Only one of Magellan’s ships, the Victoria, got home safely to Spain. The Victoria took two years and 353 days to travel around the world.
